cell phone policy

Note: the usage of the term "cell phone" in this document refers to all forms of student owned electronic communication devices.

Students using cell phones in a classroom environment is detrimental to all students' learning. Cell phones provide frequent distractions and interruptions to the lessons, and can be used to aid in academic misconduct.

It is for these reasons that all CLC students are prohibited from using their cell phones in class for any reason. This includes phone calls and text messaging, as well as any other cell phone functions (i.e. cameras, internet searches on the phone's browser, music players, calculators, and so on).

The consequences of cell phone usage during class time are as follows:

1) First offence: the teacher will confiscate the cell phone until the end of the class.

2) Second offence: the teacher will confiscate the cell phone until the end of the school day.

3) Third offence: the teacher will confiscate the cell phone and the student must meet with the teacher and the administration.

Students may use their cell phones during breaks and at lunch.

Students may not leave a class to accept or instigate a cell phone call or text message.

Parents/Guardians and emergency family contacts are required to call our school office at 878-2887 if they need to speak to their student immediately due to an emergency. Please let our office staff know that it is a family emergency and your student will be paged to come down to the office immediately to take your call.

Also, please be advised that most teachers have a policy banning the use of MP3 players and ipods in class. If you have any questions about any such policy, please contact the teacher directly.

We thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
